There are many musicians working in the music industry, but very few reach icon status. In fact, when Go-Go's guitarist Charlotte Caffey wrote "We Got the Beat" she probably didn't realize just how beloved her song would become. Today's post honors Charlotte because we think she's SO Empowered, but it also coincides with National Girl Scout Leader Day, which is fitting because of Charlotte’s contribution to the Girl Scouts Rock! Powered by Roland initiative we blogged about here.

After much success with the Go-Go’s, Caffey went on to lead her own band, The Graces. She has released albums, collaborated on records and even wrote a rock musical. Being mother to her daughter Astrid (now 16) is one of her proudest accomplishments and she wanted to get involved with the Girl Scouts Rock! Project, to help empower young girls through music and music education. Since its inception in 1912, Girl Scouts of the USA boasts a membership of 2.5 million youth and over 900,000 adult members. The Girl Scouts Rock! initiative is taking to the road, with workshops to be taking place in Chicago, New York and Miami over the next several months.
