Each year around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Thousands of events take place, not just on this day, but throughout March to honor the economic, political and social achievements of women.

The event has a specially chosen theme each year and this year's theme is "Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures." According to the official IWD website, if every International Women's Day event held in 2012 includes girls in some way, thousands of minds will be inspired globally."

As a female-owned public relations agency that specializes in marketing to women, International Women's Day is near and dear to our hearts. Our only hope is that instead of just taking one day a year to honor the empowered women in our world, more people would commit to honoring the strides made by strong women every day. We also desire to create a way to empower girls so that they will feel confident to follow their dreams and become our next generation of leaders and social movers and shakers.

This is why we do what we do here at the Her Voice blog. From our She's SO Empowered feature, to sharing tips for marketing to women and highlighting instances where companies are succeeding in reaching female consumers, we designed (and named) our blog to be a place that gives women a voice.
