Marketing to Women: The Differences Between Female and Male Entrepreneurs

For most of history, men have been at the forefront of business. It was passé for a woman to be independent, let alone running her own company. However, step into the 21st century and power women are everywhere.

According to the Hartford Financial Services Group recent survey, the two genders differ greatly in nature (that’s news?) and it can be seen in the world of entrepreneurship. Women feel more confident in their successes than men. They can be happy with their business and its success, while men don’t necessarily view it the same way. The survey was conducted among 1,004 small business owners, including 271 women and 773 men.

This jump in women’s confidence can be attributed to a few things, including:
Not risk-takers: More than half of the women said they were conservative in taking risks in their business, compared to less than half of the men. To women, taking risks do not equal success.
Accepting of costs: Women did not blame the current economic situation for bad business. They said the increased cost of doing business was a main problem and took control of that.
Vote for business: Almost 90 percent of women said they would vote for a pro-business slate of candidates in November, compared to less than 80 percent of men. This shows an increased level of empowerment at the ballot box for women, making them confident in the business climate they will work in.

Women view success in the accomplishment of running a business in today’s male-dominated world. It is a great feeling that more and more women are becoming confident and empowered to grow their own companies.

Do you have any other thoughts on why women entrepreneurs feel more confident? We’d love to hear from you!
